Will RSS help your business grow?
Really Simply Syndication or RSS is that tiny orange box with white radio waves inside it that you see in a corner of the home pages of many websites or browsers. Many wonder at the buzz over RSS as a marketing tool and ask themselves if it is worth its weight in gold. There is no doubt it is and, certainly, RSS will give your business a boost if used.
You ask how? Simple! Ok, let's start from why you are set up in business. To make money, right? And how does your business bring in money? You develop a product or render a service and then, through aggressive marketing and advertisement, you convince people to patronize your business. So, really, a successful business is about two key ingredients: something you want to sell; getting people to sell it to (and this is where RSS comes in).
RSS gives you a cheap, simple, easy, and fast platform to get across to your target audience and others. It is arguable if you can get it any better than this. Below are some specific ways RSS will improve your bottom line.
Exposure to a larger audience:
RSS is the in-thing in internet marketing right now; it's in vogue (it is still in its infancy and has a long way yet to go). The fact that it is in vogue means a lot of people are into it, and because of the herd mentality of the average human being it is safe to bet that many more internet users will join. Putting RSS on your site gives you a larger pool of people to sell to through content syndication, link building, fast search engine indexing and ranking, etc. In any case, there is the real possibility of losing ground to competitors if you don't join the RSS bandwagon because your competitors are already using it and internet users increasingly prefer RSS Feed.
Ease of access to information and your site:
Another way RSS helps your business grow is the ease of access it gives to your site from links and higher rankings. There are millions of exciting competing products on the net that users are exposed to daily. But it is neither possible nor even practicable for users to access all of this. And that is why users rely on such things as search engines, directories, RSS Feed, etc that they employ to help them decide where to look. The internet promises speed and users will take nothing less. Your RSS feeds instantaneous highlight (summary) of your offerings directly to users and if they see something they like they can link immediately to you.
Saves you cost:
Yes, it does. You don't need to pay an expert, as you don't have to know HTML or XML, the language of RSS, to publish your own content or RSS Feed on your site. All you need do is sign on, for free, to a site like eBlogger and you are on your way.
How RSS works
As earlier mentioned, you can set up your RSS by signing on to any of the hundreds of content creators or weblogs like eBlogger, LiveJournal, and Movable Type. This blog tools automatically create and maintain an RSS Feed or a list of notifications. It is this list that the RSS aggregator takes directly to subscribers and other web users. You need to specify how often (daily, weekly, quarterly, etc) the Feed needs to be updated. Your Feed must be prominently displayed, preferably on the home page, and link to the Feed provided on other pages as a constant reminder to visitors to subscribe.
For the smart internet marketer, who hopes to improve bottom line, the way to go is Really Simple Syndication.
