RSS or Really Simple Syndication is a very useful tool that enables us to be constantly updated with content from our favorite websites.
RSS utilizes a XML code which constantly scans the content of a certain website or Blog looking for fresh content, which it then relays to that sites RSS readers or subscribers. RSS feeds are incredibly useful to Bloggers, they enable us to get our content in front of thousands of readers on a daily basis. Providing you supply them with fresh, killer content daily. Once a feed is sent, it will contain a headline, a brief description and sometimes a short review of the content being provided. There will also be a link to connect with the site or Blog so you can continue reading. Normally to obtain a RSS feed from a Blog or website you will need to click on a small orange and white icon displayed in your browser window. Most Blogs and websites have the RSS icon displayed on the site in a predominant place, by clicking on that icon it enables you to subscribe to that sites feed.
To be able to read the feeds you will need the use of a feed reader or aggregator. Two of the most popular ones are Google Reader and Feed burner. A simple internet search will give you endless options. You need a free account with them, this then enables you to subscribe to your favorite feeds and read the fresh content very easily. As Bloggers should we be using RSS. Yes is the simple answer to that. You can submit your sites feed to hundreds of free RSS directories. Then every time you create content for your Blog, the directories will pick up your feed and show it to all their subscribers and readers. This can give you a big influx of free, targeted traffic.
