Most websites and blogs have some type of RSS feed. (Really simple syndication) This feature allows your site's content to be displayed in a simplified form for viewers to scan through. It allows people to subscribe and revive updates when you add new content. Using sites such as Feed Burner will allow you to monetize your feed to help generate extra income. And it's another way to get links, have bots crawl your site and make you just that much more visible on the web. Either way it's something every site should have.
Unlike sites like Blogger not all websites have an automated RSS feed feature. This means you have to create one from scratch which can be a royal pain if you have no understanding of the coding required.
An easier way is to use a feed generating site. One I've found that's extremely easy and quick to use is Rapid Feeds. (rapidfeeds.com)
Here's how to set up your own feed in just a couple minutes
1. Go to Rapid Feeds and create an account. Use their free account if you're strapped for cash, you'll only be able to create one feed. But if you need more just set up another account using a different email address.
2. Create a name for your feed; add your URL address from your sites posts. You only need to add your links from content pages not your homepage or site map for example. For each link you add include a short description for each one. You don't need to type anything new out simply copy and paste the first paragraph or couple sentences from those posts to save time.
3. Once you've added all your links go to where it says Feed Manager Home, here you can publish, ping, or get a button or widget for your feed. Your RSS feeds URL address will also be displayed.
When this is done simply add a feed button to your site where you would like it to appear and your done, It's important to remember though that this will create a static feed meaning you have to manually add each link to have it show up in your feed.
Now that your feed is created you have the option to submit it to Feed Burner. Doing this will allow you to place ads on your feed to monetize it and give you more options to help your feed go viral. To update your feed you'll still need to go to Rapid Feeds to add new content. Feed Burner will add it within 30 minutes or you can ping your feed to them to have content added faster. Usually 10 minutes or under.
Doing this will give you an RSS feed to your website in just a couple of minutes that will help get your website more traffic, subscribers who will get notified when content updates, another way for bots to crawl your site, and potentially another source of targetted traffic.
